Increase Your Web Site Traffic Using Yahoo Answers
Wednesday, 17 March 2010 19:03
Did you know that Yahoo Answers gets around a BILLION visitors each year, and all of them have questions they are searching for answers to?

These visitors should be a priority for any business to capture, as they are high motivated laser-targeted visitors.  Yet most businesses fail to use Yahoo Answers correctly, and many don't use it at all!

Let's go over some techniques so that you can use Yahoo Answers to increase traffic to your site, and get these targeted customers right to your front door.

WHAT KIND OF TRAFFIC SHOULD YOU EXPECT FROM YAHOO ANSWERS?

Well every business is different, but if we had to assign a number to it, I would expect around 20 to 30 visitors per month from each answer you give. Keep in mind that some answers will get better ranking than others and get more traffic, while others won't rank at all and get hardly any traffic. This is why it's *safe* to estimate 20-30 visitors per month per answer.

What if I want 100 visitors per day (or 3,000 per month)? Then you will need to place your link in roughly 100 answers. Now it may sound like a lot, but not really. If you answer 10 to 20 questions per day you could have roughly 100 answers in a month.

Now REALLY popular questions can even get traffic to your site within five minutes of answering the question, especially at peak times when many people are browsing Yahoo Answers.

GETTING STARTED:

  1. Get an account with Yahoo Answers. You can sign up by going here.
  2. Search for OPEN questions. Do a search for questions in your niche and find those one that haven't been closed yet. Most questions are open for four days so you'll have plenty of time to find a bunch of questions to reply to.
  3. On the advanced search page for Yahoo Answers, enter your keyword into the keyword field.
  4. Under "search for keyword match in" select the "questions" radio button.
  5. Under "category", select "all"
  6. Under "questions status" select "open questions- best answer has not been chosen".
  7. Under "date submitted" select "anytime".
  8. Under "% Thumbs Up rating" select "all evaluations".
  9. Once you have your results, choose 10 or so questions that you'd like to answer but put your link in the resource box of only 2 of the questions.
Why don't you put your link in all your answers?

Yahoo (as with all of us) HATES spammers, and if you place your link in all of them, you are sure to raise some red flags. It's best to play it safe by choosing only a few to answers to put your link into. With the rest of them, just write short quick answers to balance things out.

Your overall goal is to get the best rating for those questions you submitted answers to, so your answers need to be accurate and articulate. You want to get a "best answer" rating which will put your response at the top of the page, and ultimately drive traffic to your website.  Most readers tend not to go past the first reply.

WHAT TO AVOID WHEN USING YAHOO ANSWERS:

  • Make sure your weblink is DIRECTLY related to the question. Just because someone asked a question about making pizza sauce doesn't mean you can send them an online coupon to your pizza store. This kind of action will hurt your account by getting marked as "spammy".
  • Stay away from 'cheat-sheets' as they cant answer every question. Make sure your answers are both direct and unique.
  • Write a detailed answer to the question. The more pertinent information you give in your answer, the greater chance you will get the "best answer" award.
  • NEVER-EVER use "to find out more click here" or "Click the link below to find out more" in your answer. Just answer the question and place the link in the resource box.
If used correctly, Yahoo Answers can be a great source of driving traffic to your website. Be patient and consistent and you will quickly see the fruits of your labor!
